President Zuma calls GEJ over xenophobic attacks

Reportedly , President Zuma of South Africa has put a call across to President Jonathan to express his sadness over the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa. He appealed to President Jonathan not to allow the incident affect the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Reports of the phone call is contained in a statement released by the office of the South African president today April 30th. The statement in part below “The two Presidents reaffirmed the warm and cordial relations between South Africa and Nigeria and pledged that the two countries will continue to work together for the good of their peoples and the continent as a whole. President Jonathan expressed his support for the efforts of South Africa to arrest the attacks on foreign nationals and to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, including foreign nationals and those from the African continent in particular, who bore the brunt of the attacks earlier this month (April).”

in the photo above are some of the girls that were recently rescued by the Nigerian troops from Sambisa Forest.  While adresing newsmen in Abuja today,Spokesperson of the Defence Headquarters, Major General Chris Olukolade, said the identity of the rescued females is still unknown.  He said...... "Additional number of persons are still being recovered from the forest. Until such comprehensive profiling is done, nobody can confirm whether they are among the Chibok girls or not. Whoever they may be, the important thing is that Nigerians held captive under very severe and inhuman condition have been freed by our gallant troops. The joy and sense of hope being expressed by many Nigerians on hearing about the rescue operation is therefore understandable. We would like to reassure them that the momentum of this operation will be sustained until that sambisa forest is comprehensively cleaned out and all Nigerians held captive within the bowels of the forest are rescued.

10 of Malala Yousafzai's attackers jailed for life

  The  Pakistani High Court today April 30th,has sentenced  10 men who were involved in the assassination attempt on teenage education activist & Nobel Peace Prize Laurette, Malala Yousafzai in 2012, have been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. In  in Pakistan  Life imprisonment is 25 years. Although none of the men who directly carried out the attack were arraigned and sentenced today, the 10 men sentenced are accomplices. . "They certainly had a role in the planning and execution of the assassination attempt on Malala," said a police official in Swat who declined to be identified as he was not authorized to speak to the media. Police believe the gunman who shot Malala escaped across the border into Afghanistan.

24 religious buildings shut down over noise pollution By the lagos State Gov

According to the Lagos state government , in the last one year it has shut down 24 religious buildings in the state becauseof the complaints about the noise pollution they produce in areas where they are situated as well as their non adherence to the state guidelines on noise pollution. In the picture above is the Lagos state Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello .He disclosed this at the 2015 ministerial press briefing held in Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja yesterday April 29th. He said...... “We received over 1, 000 petitions in the year under review. But we have been able to resolve some and some have relocated. We have shut about 24 religious outfits in the last one year because they failed to adhere to the state guidelines on noise pollution.''

South African women narrate discrimination they face for marrying Nigerian men

Some South African women married to Nigerian men narrates the discrimination they face for marrying men outside their country. Because of this disaffection,the women decided to form an association, the United Nigerian Wives in South Africa (UNWISA) club about two years ago where they give support and succor to each other. 42 year old Lindwela Uche who serves as the chairwoman of the group told AFP that they saw the xenophobic attacks coming and alerted their husbands but they did not take their warning seriously "We saw this thing coming and that’s why we formed this association. Federal Government to pay marketers N156bn fuel subsidy claims

Yesterday, The Federal Government, yesterday, said it would pay MOWAN N156 billion, out of the about N256.2 billion the marketers claim is owed to them in subsidy claims i n order to prevent current fuel scarcity . Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala    Minister of Finance, made this statement yesterday in Abuja at the World Customs Day event.She expressed optimism that the payment, which is expected to be made today, will help address the current fuel scarcity plaguing the country. Governor Ayo Fayose withdraws lawsuit against APC lawmakers

Yesterday, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, withdrew the suit against the 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the state House of Assembly from impeaching him and his Deputy, Kolapo Olusola. In the suit, the plaintiffs, including speaker of the House of As­sembly which is oc­cupied by the Peoples Demo­cratic Party (PDP) factional Speaker, Olugbemi Joseph Dele; Ekiti State House of Assembly, Fayose and Olusola through their counsel, Ahmed Raji (SAN), had approached the court seeking to stop im­peachment moves against the governor.  However,  The suit  had already been struck out by Justice Ahmed Moham­med. When the matter was called for hearing yesterday, counsel to the plaintiffs, Raji, informed the court of his client’s inten­tion to withdraw the case. The plaintiff’s counsel did not give any reason for the with­drawal.

Chibok community have high hopes that the missing girls will come home soon.

The Chibok com­munity in Borno State have not yet seen any of their 219 schoolgirls abducted over a year ago by Boko Haram insurgents in the Northeast of the much beleaguered state. They insist however that they have high hopes that their missing daughters would soon walk home. The rescue of the 200 girls and 93 women that was announced by the authorities last tuesday has given them high hopes that things might soon turn around for good for them, and their daughters would eventually be rescued. Justin Bieber in trouble in Rome

Yesterday, Justin Bieber got into trouble while in Rome to shoot "Zoolander 2.  He is wanted in Argentina in connection to not showing up to face charges that he allegedly got his bodyguards to beat up an Argentine photographer in 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There was rumours that Several police officers have showed up outside his hotel in Rome Fortunately for him, no arrest was made. Bieber is said to be on an Interpol list because of the outstanding warrant in Argentina in 2013.  Justin had to go through secondary search at Customs when he flew into Italy because Argentina had contacted Interpol and put him on the list. Justin's legal team say there's a grace period before he gets arrested on the warrant which was only issued earlier this month. As for the officers outside the hotel it was discovered that they were consulting with Justin's security team on crowd control.

160 more rescued from Sambisa Forest

According to AFP, the Nigerian Army says it has rescued about 160 more hostages from Sambisa Forest. Army spokesman Sani Usman told AFP.................. "We are still trying to compute the actual number of those rescued. But tentatively there are about 60 women of various ages and around 100 children,"  He also said one woman was killed in the fighting and eight other rescued hostages were injured. A soldier was also killed and four others wounded.

The wife of the Comedian, Talk Show host and TV producer Teju Babyface's, Tobi Oyelakin, was attacked on her way to the mainland at about 8pm last night when her car by hoodlums on Eko Bridge.  She was in the car with her driver and 3 other girls in the back seat and were approaching the National Theater area of the Eko bridge when they encountered some traffic. Immediately,4 boys leaped out of the shadows and knocked on the windows with torch lights and asked them to roll down the windows. They were still trying to come to terms with rising levels of panic when the hoodlums shattered the rear windows on both sides of the car and proceeded to rough-handle the ladies in the back seat and collect all valuables. Continue...   The hoodlums proceeded with impunity to open all the bags and pour the contents into nylon bags they brought along. This was in the presence of all other motorists on the bridge. The robbery went on for well over 2minutes from start to finish.

Michael Igbinedion and accomplice convicted of N25billion scam

yesterday,April 29th, In benincity Edo state. A Federal high court has convicted Michael Igbinedion, the younger brother of former Edo state governor, Lucky Igbinedion and one Charles Eboigbodin over a N25bn money laundering scam . The duo and their firms: Gava Corporation Limited; Romrig Nigeria Limited; PML Securities Company Limited and PML Nigeria Limited, were dragged before the court by EFCC over an 81-count charge of alleged money laundering, misappropriation of funds and abuse of office. While delivering judgement, The presiding judge, Justice Liman said that the two accused persons were guilty as charged on some of the counts. The judge convicted Eboigbodin for money laundering on counts 50-59, while Igbinedion was adjudged guilty as charged on counts 79-81. Justice Liman however deferred the sentencing of the convicts till today April 30th. The convicts had earlier pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned, setting the stage for a full trial. The Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has sacked the Director of finance of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Tochukwu Bede Uchendu, over allegations of irregularities associated with his appointment into office as well as granting unapproved waivers worth N1 billion. Mr Uchendu's sack was effected following a petition by the Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) dated  March 23rd  and addressed to the office of the Head of Service. The unions had alleged that he was still serving as a director in a company owned by the minister, Consumer Investment Limited, and therefore “it is obvious that he may not be able to discharge his duties without fear or favor as he would have to contend with conflict of interests because of his ownership as a board member of Consumer Investment Limited, a company which the wife of the minister is also a serving Director.” His sack which was

293 rescued females undergo HIV and pregnancy test

The 293 Females who were rescused from sambisa forest two days ago by the Nigerian military has been moved to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in other to undergo series of test including HIV and pregnancy test A military source  spoke to   Punch   and said that  7 of the girls rescued had gunshot wounds and are being treated at the hospital. The 200 girls rescued are of between ages 13 and 18 years.

After beign under the rubble for five days,a 15 year old Pemba was pulled out alive. He was in a guest house that collapsed during the earthquake in Nepal.  According to him, he drank water dripping from wet clothes to survive praying to be found.  There were still people shouting from under the rubble where Pemba was found but rescue workers have not been able to get to them.

The corpses of the 4 Nigerians that were executed in Indonesia has been requested by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
