60 Undergraduates bag Scholarships at Etisalat’s Merit Awards

To demonstration its commitment towards impacting lives and improving the quality of education in the country, Etisalat Nigeria has awarded scholarship grants to another batch of 60 Nigerian university undergraduates at its annual Merit Awards.

In further demonstration of its commitment to impacting lives and improving the quality of education in the country, Etisalat Nigeria has awarded scholarship grants to another batch of 60 Nigerian university undergraduates at its annual Merit Awards. Each of the beneficiaries received the sum of N100, 000 in support of their education at the 2015 Etisalat Merit Awards presentation ceremony, held in Abuja.

The grants were awarded to outstanding undergraduates with the highest CGPA in courses like Electrical Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Management Sciences. This year the awardees were drawn from six leading government-owned universities in the northern region of the country. The schools include: Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola; Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Benue State University; Bayero University Kano; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and University of Abuja.

There was also a competition tagged ‘Innovation Moment’, and Ahmadu Bello University won a full projector set as the school with the most innovative idea. However all the schools received branded merchandise and copies of the top 3 books shortlisted for the Etisalat Prize for Literature 2014 edition, to encourage the development of a reading culture in their respective institutions. Speaking at the event, the Vice President, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, Etisalat Nigeria, Ibrahim Dikko, said the Etisalat Merit Awards is a major part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative and it demonstrates Etisalat’s commitment to educational development and the promotion of excellence among the youth segment in the country while encouraging excellent education across the nation”.

The event was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Colleges of Education, and Vice-Chancellors of the beneficiary schools who expressed their appreciation to Etisalat for its commitment to education through various innovative interventions in the sector as well as in other sectors.

The Etisalat Merit Awards has been implemented for seven successive years with more than 1400 scholarships awarded in this period. The programme aims to offer the best performing undergraduates in partner institutions grants towards the successful completion of their courses of study as a way of lightening the financial burdens of the students and their parents allowing them to concentrate on their programmes and achieve excellence.
